Ms Mokgatle is currently one of the most successful business women in
the country.
She holds a B Proc degree from the University of the North, LLB (Law)
and a Higher Diploma in Tax Law from Wits University. Ms Mokgatle's career
path started to shape when she was appointed as student research assistant
at Wits University in 1978.
She was then offered an opportunity to practice for her articles at Webber,
Wenzel and Company between 1982 and 1984. Wits University appointed her
as Research Officer from 1984 to 1987 before she joined Cheadle Thompson
and Hayson in 1985 as professional assistant. Between 1987 and 1990, she
became a Litigation Officer with the Black Lawyers Association before
enhancing her legal career with the Corporate Legal Consultant in 1991
to 1995 as Legal Advisor.
Ms Mokgatle held the following positions: Managing Director: Transmission
with Eskom from 2000 to 2003; Executive Director: Corporate Affairs from
1997 to 1999; Executive Director: Growth and Development in 1996; and
SGM Growth and Development from 1995 to 1996 before she was appointed
as Chief Executive Officer of Spoornet in 2005.
She has received prestigious awards from different sectors to acknowledge
the splendid work she has done in her field. The following awards are
credited to her name: Eskom Distributor Award - 1993; Eskom Legal Manager's
Award - 1993 and 1994; Eskom Chairman's Award - 1994; First Black woman
and first non-technical person to be appointed Executive Director of technical
driven group (Transmission); Recipient of the Technology for Women in
Business Award 2000 by the Minister of Minerals and Energy Affairs; Finalist
in the 2000 South African Business Woman of the Year Award and Black Business
Quarterly Business Woman Award 2003 - BBQ.
She has severed as a Board member for the Eskom Distribution Industry,
Michaelhouse Board of Governors; and Board of Trustees Pridwin School.
When the National Energy Regulator (NERSA) was established on 1 October
2005, Ms Mokgatle was appointed by the Minister of Minerals and Energy
as Deputy Chairperson of NERSA.
